Corner property, Great North Road, Eaton Socon

Date September 2016

The village of Eaton Socon has a distinctive conservation area running through the heart of it in the form of the Great North Road.  This project is a corner property on the Great North Road and is situated within this conservation area at the junction with Wilkinson Close.  The property is not listed but is of a traditional aesthetic with various modern additions.

We have been approached to create a first-floor extension on a single-storey wing to the rear and side of the house.  We completed a series of feasibility sketches and ideas to explore how the new build will sit against the existing house.  The client wanted to build on the existing rear extension and this footprint has shaped our designs.

A submission was made to the planning department at the end of February 2016.  The design had good support from the town council and the residents.  There was, however, some feedback from the conservation officer regarding the roof levels.  We incorporated this feedback into the application so that the planning department could make a decision with the slight alterations recommended by the conservation officer.  All images are available on this page and show the development of the design.  Images 8 – 14 show the current design.

We were granted planning permission for this scheme in September 2016.  We were requested by the Conservation Officer to make a few adjustments but in the end, they supported the scheme.  We are working with the client to see how they want to proceed.
